The Armenian genocide, a survivor's story

What Daech did in Syria and Iraq was sadly not new. It has been done before, over a century ago, by the forefathers of its former sponsor: Turkey. A survivor remembers and tells her story.

Maria was 104 years old in 2012, when this video was shot. She lived, and maybe still lives, in Yerevan, Armenia. She survived the genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire against its Armenian, Assyrian, Syriac and Chaldean population.

A genocide Turkey is still refusing to recognize. A genocide not so different from the one Daech tried to carry out in Syria and Iraq against Yazidis, Kurds and Christians, under the complaisant eye of Erdogan's Turkey and the deafening silence of western democracies.

Maria' story is heartbreaking and a very precious document that helps us understand where Daech's horrors came from.
